Near and Dear

And His [legal] father and [His] mother were marveling at what was said about Him. And as a widow even for eighty-four years. She did not go out from the temple enclosure, but was worshiping night and day with fasting and prayer. And she too came up at that same hour, and she returned thanks to God and talked of [Jesus] to all who were looking for the redemption (deliverance) of Jerusalem. (Luke 2:33, 37, 38 AMP)

A sweet lady of maybe 107 years old shuffled up to Mary and Joseph and their seven day old while they were in the Temple for a visit. They were quite already filled to the brim of praise for their Son and wonder at the reactions of the Temple Priest and everyone who met Him.

This little lady, Anna, had a reputation for constant worship and for fasting and prayer. She couldn’t get enough fasting and prayer because God was so dear to her and so near to her when she did. Once she had seen Jesus she could not stop talking about the Baby who would redeem, ransom, rescue Israel. God was going to ransom the world from the enemy so we could be His. He longed to take us under His wings. Little did she know what the ransom would cost.
