Know, recognize, and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations, (Deuteronomy 7:9 AMP)
I wonder 1,000 generations ago from me and our extended family, what were they like? They weren’t perfect if they’re like us, but if they’re like us they were loving and yet have disagreements. I hope we were like them because they passed Jesus down 1000 sets of lives. I hope we do too.
It’s not that we all are obeying a bunch of rules, choosing right from wrong perfectly. Obeying, keeping His commandments, is stumbling while we try to hear Him tell us how to give mercy to people in our lives. But He’s poured out on our family tree His love and mercy anyway. We didn’t and don’t deserve them but none of the children of Adam and Eve, nor Adam and Eve, have ever deserved them.
Lord, may 1000 sets of lives be blessed by the grace You’ve shown this imperfect, mercy-giving generation. Not because of us but because of You, the Lord our God, our best Friend and the One we worship, the faithful One.
Be encouraged that your life of loving Him will be passed down the generations. Sometimes life gets discouraging but He’s doing a work that will last through time on into eternity. Sweet Jesus made sure of that on the cross. Check out the other blogs at Coffee for the Heart at http://www.holleygerth.com.
