The Soothing Balm

After Peter’s Denial and the Resurrection,
One morning Jesus fixed them breakfast,
“When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter,
Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others
with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father] ?
He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You
[that I have deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend].
He said to him, Feed My lambs.” (John 21:15 AMP)
When we fail and guilt overwhelms us
He takes us aside
He singles us out
and pours a balm to soothe our painfully, guilty heart.
He wants us to know we are still capable
of making a difference in our world.
Not because we’re OK
But because we’re not but He fills us.
We’ve learned to lean on Him.
Depending on ourselves brought us great pain.
We’ll still need correcting from time to time
Perfection won’t be reached by any of us
Until we go Home.
And past guilt gives a sweet longing for that Day.
