Holy, Holy, Holy, Ancient of Days

But the end and culmination of all things has now come near;
keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore
for [the practice of] prayer. (1 Peter 4:7 AMP)
Peter, the author of this part of the Bible
Felt the end to our earthly lives was near.
Heaven was beginning to encroach.
So did Paul, another writer of the New Testament.
So evidently however close our Home might be
we should live like it’s near.
The reason is that prayer should be
An important part of our lives.
We should feel an urgency to pray.

Prayer is not just a ritual
Or a series of lines to say
To get God to do something for you.
What I know of prayer I don’t practice.
Prayer is pouring out our hearts
Into God’s.
Prayer is getting so close to Him that
When we do get Home,

Whether sooner or later
We’re so near Him
That we don’t get the least bit homesick for Earth.
But our Home in every way will be Heaven.
And our closest, most comfortable Friend
Will be the Holy, Holy, Holy Ancient of Days.
